Cleaning A Trap Can Be Hard
While restaurant owners could clean their own grease traps, this process is typically too involved for them to do on their own. First of all, grease traps should be cleaned every month to a month and a half. Any longer and the owner runs the risk of creating a dirty or clogged trap. This wouldn't be so bad if cleaning a grease trap wasn't a major hassle.
Unfortunately, grease trap cleaning is an annoying process. First of all, it requires a gas mask, rubber gloves, coveralls, a variety of prying equipment, a shop vacuum and a bucket. Then it requires opening the grasp, scooping out dirt and sludge, and then sucking the grease out with the vacuum. All in all, it can take most of the afternoon to finish.
