Access to a reliable welding machine makes it easier to fabricate metal components and make repairs to metal seams. When you go to use your welding machine and the unit won't start, your project could be sidelined.
Here are three tips that you can use to help you identify the cause of your welding machine's power problems and address them so that you can get your project back on track.
1. Check the power supply line fuse.
If your welding machine will not start, you might assume that the electrical connection is to blame. If the outlet you have your machine plugged into is in working order, the issue is most likely with your power supply line fuse.
Your welding machine relies on a series of fuses to help control and distribute electricity to various parts of the machine. When the power supply line fuse malfunctions, an electrical current isn't delivered to your machine's starting mechanism. Replacing a blown power supply line fuse will generally resolve any issues that you have with your welding machine not wanting to start.
2. Determine if electricity is reaching the welding machine.
It's possible for the circuit you have your welding machine plugged into to malfunction during use. If the circuit experiences a sudden surge in electricity, it will automatically shut down in order to prevent the excess electricity from damaging any components plugged into the circuit.
When your welding machine won't turn on, you should check the circuit breaker to determine if an electrical charge is reaching your machine. Resetting the circuit will restore proper electrical flow, and should allow your welding machine to power up normally once again.
3. Check the temperature of your welding machine.
If you have been using your welding machine for a prolonged period of time, the machine could be beginning to overheat. Many modern welding machines will automatically shut down when the internal temperature gets too high in order to prevent the machine's motor from overheating.
If your welding machine turns off while it is in use and then refuses to power on again, check the temperature to see if overheating is to blame for the power loss. Letting the machine cool should restore power and allow you to continue working on your project.
